In “It’s a Deal”, a flashback discloses that fan-favorite character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his human life. Being aware he was headed to the underworld, he made contact with the realm beyond in advance to secure a powerful role there. The charismatic leader, the charismatic leader the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Condemned Soul in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.

This raises an important query: How is Rosie sufficiently strong to raise Alastor over all other Demonic Sinners?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the initial building block in a larger narrative that involves a great deal, moving into the third season,” the creator explains. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she so strong? The answer might be various factors, but the answer is in season 3. I am thrilled for people to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration viewers will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have green-lit the third and fourth seasons, but the creator often notes that animated production is a slow, lengthy process, and later seasons are undated. Still, she says holding off on those details is an important part of keeping season 2’s focus in the right places.

“The difficulty of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or narratives that have enigmas, is providing the audience sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that as we go, and letting that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Questions Answered in Season 3

The creator assures that the upcoming season will tackle the questions followers have been posing, such as why the cannibal leader commanded Alastor to vanish for seven years, which weakened his influence in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the deals these humans are making, and all that — it contributes to a larger story,” she says.

In the meantime, the origin story episode provides a further look into what the core cast of Sinner Demons looked like as humans, following after seeing Sir Pentious’ Victorian-era mortal appearance in the second episode. She explains that a lot of thought went into the visual creation of these forms.

“The mortal forms of these personas carry so much weight,” she says. “They range from looking really different from their demon form to seeming very similar. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was a little bit of a debate internally between going with a design that symbolizes the personality, as opposed to going with an option that's very time-period accurate. We opted for making a design that just seemed like it was him.”

She mentions the biggest debate over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had extended hair like that in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we believe the silhouette is extremely crucial, and we also just thought he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we create the mortal forms of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and determine. I am looking forward for fans to see more of the appearances of the human versions.”

Fresh installments of Hazbin Hotel season 2 are released on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
