Television footage showed Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing waiting alongside a large toy shaped like a missile marked “DF-61” while waiting for the judges' results at the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday. This model is a recently introduced Chinese-made land-based long-range weapon capable of carrying nuclear weapons, which was displayed during a national ceremony last month. “The ISU have acknowledged of an unsuitable soft toy seems to have been one of the objects tossed onto the ice by spectators following a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the ISU commented via a release. “The soft toy was then held by the skaters after their performance. We apologizes for this occurrence and will look into it more deeply.” The duo finished eighth out of ten teams in the ice dance event, which was won by the American pair of the United States.
